Vista Compatibility Information
This page is for Windows Compatibility Updates to ABBYY FineReader 8.0 Professional, Corporate and Site License Editions.
ABBYY has conducted a Windows Vista compatibility test of FineReader 8.0 Professional, Corporate and Site License Editions in accordance with our commitment to support the latest Windows operating system. With the official launch of Windows Vista, we have released product updates for FineReader 8.0 (desktop application). These updates fix minor issues, allowing Windows to treat FineReader as a trusted application, so that no security warnings appear during the installation or launch of the application.
All editions of ABBYY FineReader 8.0 - Professional, Corporate and Site License Editions, have already received the «Works with Windows Vista» qualification and logo from Microsoft. The certification means that the products meet baseline standards of functionality on all PCs running Windows Vista and deliver a reliable experience.
The Vista compatibility updates to ABBYY FineReader 8.0 Professional, Corporate and Site License Editions are available at no charge for registered customers. To get these updates, please refer to the Check for Updates option. This option is available from the main menu of your FineReader application: Help>Check for updates now. Please note, that your serial number will be automatically verified.

List of tested TWAIN compatible scanners

All the scanner models in the list have been tested with the TWAIN drivers supplied with them at the time of testing. All these appeared to have a ABBYY FineReader 8.0, ABBYY FineReader 7.0, ABBYY ScanTo Office 1.0, ABBYY FormReader 6.0, ABBYY FormReader 6.5 compatible mode. Nonetheless ABBYY Software House doesn't guarantee these scanners to be fully compatible with FineReader due to the fact that we were unable to encompass all the possible operating systems and scanner drivers in our testing program. Due to this fact ABBYY Software House assumes no liability whatsoever for any commercial damage that might arise out of use of the scanner information stated below.

Supported Digital Cameras
ABBYY FineReader can recognize TIFF and JPEG files created by any digital cameras.
It's recommended to use a 4-megapixel digital camera, ideally equipped with the following features:
- Flash disable mode
- Manual aperture control or aperture priority mode
- Manual focusing
- An anti-shake feature
- Optical zoom

Recognition Languages
ABBYY FineReader 8.0 supports 179 recognition languages, including 36 languages with dictionary support. For languages with dictionary support you may use the FineReader spell-checking system. Here you can download additional recognition languages.

Depending on distribution area the program may include different sets of interface languages. By default, ABBYY FineReader is installed with one interface language – according to user’s choice at the beginning of installation. ABBYY FineReader 8.0 versions (which are distributed via Internet) include a limited number of interface languages. This helps to reduce the file size and the time required for downloading. You can download additional interface languages, along with respective recognition languages, free of charge (see the instruction).
